Y12SR: Peer Support Guide Certification
Purpose
Y12SR Peer Support Guide Program trains teachers to lead Yoga of 12-Step Recovery
What to expect
This unique, trauma-informed program blends the ancient wisdom of yoga with the structure of 12-step recovery. This is a two-part, 36-hour program that combines self-paced online learning with a live, hands-on weekend session. The first part is a self-paced, 21-hour online course focused on foundational knowledge, while the second is a dynamic, 15-hour live session or in-person, that emphasizes practical facilitation skills. The training includes lectures, practice sessions, group discussions, practice teaching, experiential exercises, and a full Y12SR meeting simulation to prepare you for leading your own sessions.
Style/Lineage
The Y12SR program is not a traditional yoga lineage, but a modern synthesis born from Nikki Myers’s personal experience and training in multiple disciplines. She explains that the practice aims to "connect the dots" between the ancient wisdom of yoga philosophy and practices, the practical tools from the 12-step program, the neuroscience of how addiction affects the brain, and trauma healing. The phrase captures the program's core philosophy, "The issues live in our tissues," rooted in the realization that a union was needed between the cognitive approach of 12-step programs and the somatic approach to healing offered through yoga.
