Purpose

In this life-changing program, you will be provided with the tools to develop the skills
and knowledge required to lead others in a vinyasa yoga class; while integrating the philosophical wisdom of this ancient practice in a way that is relevant in today's modern world.

What to expect

This is s hybrid program that includes both in-person training and self-study, self-paced assignments via the online 200-hour course platform.
This year long schedule allows you to fully absorb all the information presented without the need for rushing or feeling overwhelmed as you balance all the other things in your life.
Upon registration, you will receive access to the online course platform so that you can begin your studies.

Style/Lineage

Lyn Kehoe Power Yoga is a breath guided, vinyasa style, meditative practice where poses are used as tools for transformation. It is grounded in the foundational elements of Ashtanga yoga, with influences of the contemporary power yoga styles of Baron Baptiste and Bryan Kest.
Classes are designed for all levels. Options are offered throughout to support a non-competitive environment and inclusivity.

Additional Information

A minimum of one year of yoga experience is recommended. Though, anyone who is disciplined and dedicated is welcome.

Anatomy, Physiology, Biomechanics
  • Discuss the basic structure of the human body by identify the major bones, joints, and muscles that create movement in the body.
  • Describe anatomical position by explaining why it is used, give examples of basic directional terms, and how they can be applied in yoga postures.
  • List the major joints in the body and explain their joint type, anatomical movements, and the key muscles that move or stabilize the joint.
Business Skills
  • Develop a business plan that includes writing a bio, understanding legalities, ways for proper reach out, and accounting considerations.
  • Develop a mission statement and find your teaching niche by determining what inspires you to teach, what you are trying to achieve through your teaching, and discovering your teaching style.
Yoga History & Theory
  • Describe the five major periods of yoga history including the vedic period, pre-classical period, classical period, post-classical period, and modern period; and have an in-depth knowledge of yoga's history stemming from its origins in ancient india to the emergence of postural yoga.
  • Discuss the key ideas of patanjali's yoga sutras including the meaning of yoga as defined by patanjali, the kleshas, and the 8 limbed path with a focus on the yamas and niyamas.
  • Discuss the main philosophical concepts of the bhagavad gita including karma yoga, jnana yoga, bhakti yoga, raja yoga, dharma.
Practice Skills
  • Perform the postures in the lkpy 90-minute sequence with mindfulness, safe alignment, and with modifications/options appropriate for level and experience.
  • Practice in the lkpy style by applying ujjayi breath, bandha, and drishti to create a meditative practice with a focus on mental aspects that promote personal growth on and off the mat.
Teaching Skills
  • Teach the 5 foundational principles of power yoga by applying them directly into class and being able to explain each one in detail and its use; this includes presenting ujjayi breathing at the opening of class, explaining the technique, and why it is used in the practice.
  • Lead students through a meditative practice by using verbal skills that support cultivating interoceptive awareness and self-reflection.
  • Demonstrate the ability to observe and assess students during asana practice by offering options, modifications, and verbal assists based on individual needs.
  • Lead a 90-minute power yoga class that includes a well-rounded arc style sequence, a philosophical focus, clear and precise cueing, proper voice tone and projection, pacing.
  • Teach the basic alignment for the 50 postures in the lkpy sequence by applying the 'from the ground up' cueing method and offering appropriate variations and modifications.
  • Create a space of inclusivity and non-competition by offering options and modifications in a way that avoids a hierarchy of poses; use language that supports the individuality of students and encourage personal agency.
  • Design a class that integrates one of yoga's ethical principles (the yamas and niyamas) by presenting it at the start of class, offering ways to practice it on the mat through use of intentional language, creative teaching methods, and mental practices, and closing class with suggestions of how to practice the principle off the mat.
Lifestyle & Ethics
  • Apply a professional code of conduct by using the yamas and niyamas as guiding principles in determining the responsibilities that come with teaching yoga.
  • Apply yoga’s ethical principles (the yamas and niyamas) in day-to-day life by studying, journaling, and reflecting on each principle for personal growth.

AYC allows each school to state and evaluate the competencies each student acquires. Students rate how well the program delivered them.

Program evaluations
  • Teaching evaluation

A final teaching evaluation is held during the last in-person training session. Each trainee is required to teach the full 90-minute power yoga sequence. Trainees will be evaluated on the following objectives: -the ability to confidently set a tone and intention at the beginning of class -the ability apply clear and precise cueing for transitions using the 'breath, action, body part, direction' formula -the ability to demonstrate knowledge of basic alignment for each pose that is being taught; and to teach the alignment for each pose from "the ground up' -the ability to include appropriate modifications or options, along with any needed corrective verbal assists -the ability to direct attention to the energetic/oppositional actions of a pose, interoceptive awareness -the ability to demonstrate knowledge on a specific philosophical concept and apply it in a vinyasa class in a way that is relevant and understandable to students (a philosophical theme) -the ability to create a safe and welcoming space for all -appropriate voice tone and projection; the ability to move around the room and make your presence known -proper pacing and timing of the class Other evaluations: -The Yoga Anatomy and the Yogic Studies Philosophy units require completion and submission of review questions. -Throughout your training you will be required to complete light reading assignments, along with journaling and reflection, on the ten ethical principles of yoga. You will be expected be prepared to discuss and contribute to a group discussion and share your personal experience, understanding, and challenges for each.
