Purpose

Yoga & Pilates Teacher Training serves many purposes: Deepening knowledge & understanding of Yoga philosophy, history, asana/style/lineage, methodology and anatomy. Personal Practice Enhancement. Skill Development, Leader Skills. Personal Growth. Community Building. Certification.

What to expect

Trainees will experience a well-rounded curriculum covering yoga history, philosophy, anatomy, teaching techniques, while developing leadership skills, confidence and hands on teaching experience.

Style/Lineage

Vinyasa, Power Vinyasa, Yin, Meditation. Students will be instructed by lead teacher, Marianne Hritz, who shares her decades of teaching and trainings. Several of Marianne's teachers include: Baron Baptiste, Shiva Rea, Seane Corn, Tymi Howard-Bender, Steve Ross, Ana Forest ,Dharma Mittra, Kofi Buscia, Jillian Pransky, Johnny Kest, Bryan Kest, Sid McNairy, Brenden Lentz, John Friend, Rolf Gates, Judith Lassiter and many more!

By the end of this program, graduates will be able to…

Yoga History & Theory
  • Discuss the 8 limbs of yoga by describing the practices and applications of each limb and describing how each yama and niyama applies to a personal life situation
  • Discuss the seven chakra system as described by anodea judith including each chakra's name, location, and associated color.
  • Discuss your own yoga lineage as descended from krishnamacharya by identifying key historical figures (krishnamacharya, iyengar, pattabhi jois, indra devi, desikachar, shiva rea, seane corn, baron baptiste, ana forrest, steve ross) and their contributions to modern yoga and the lux yoga style.
Teaching Skills
  • Teach lux yoga's vinyasa and yin set sequence cuing directly and audibly, guiding students in and out of poses safely, incorporating breath effectively, adapting for students of various levels, teaching responsively to what you see, and demonstrating the ability to hold silence.
  • Demonstrate good communication skills through giving specific and observed feedback and demonstrating the ability to give and receive feedback with open body language and eye contact.
  • Create a themed yoga class by choosing a class theme, referencing the theme in class, and choosing music that aligns with the thematic intention.
  • Adapt a class for special populations (prenatal students, seniors, students working with injuries) that sensibly adapts postures for each student's individual needs.
  • Teach ujjayi and sitali cuing the inhale and exhale effectively, guiding bandhas accurately, speaking clearly and audibly and using good pacing.
Lifestyle & Ethics
  • Describe the core values of the lux yoga and pilates teaching training program including professionalism, integrity, the imporance of community, and describing how the 8 limbs apply to both personal and professional life.
Business Skills
  • Describe the professional components of a yoga teaching career, including professional behavior, use of waivers, importance of liability insurance, how to track and invoice, and the benefits of membership in a professional organization.
Anatomy, Physiology, Biomechanics
  • Apply a clear understanding of anatomy to your teaching by cuing alignment safely, teaching the breath effectively, and creating biomechanically stable transitions and sequences.
Practice Skills
  • Practice postures from the lux yoga curriculum with a deep awareness of alignment, incorporation of effective breathing, appropriate use of props to adapt for one's individual needs.
  • Practice pranayama and meditation from the lux yoga curriculum using bandhas effectively, with good posture, with awareness of the 8 limbs......

AYC allows each school to state and evaluate the competencies each student acquires. Students rate how well the program delivered them.

There will be quizzes throughout the training to ensure students are understanding the material. Students are required to teach to their peers and community classes at the end of training. Students are required to participate in a community project. There are assignments given throughout the training (considered noncontact hours). They are required to journal on the Yamas & Niyamas. There is a final exam at the end of the course.
